Having Hope in Life
Umm Salamah (RAA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say:
“There is no Muslim who is stricken with a calamity and says what Allah has enjoined – ‘Verily to Allah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and compensate me with something better’ – but Allah will compensate him with something better.”
[Muslim-918]
Don’t Lose Hope in Life
…And never give up hope of Allāh’s Mercy.
Certainly no one despairs of Allāh’s Mercy,
except the people who disbelieve.”
[Quran, Yusuf12:87]
Be Grateful
“Therefore remember Me, I will remember you, And be thankful to Me, and do not be ungrateful to Me.”
[Al-Baqarah 2:152]
Be Patient and Pray
O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salāt (prayer). Truly! Allāh is with As-Sābirin (the patient)”
(Qur’an, Al-Baqarah 2:153)
The Meaning of Some Trials
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
“If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him trials”
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 70, Number 548]
Small Afflictions to Big Calamities
Narrated ‘Aisha (RA): Allah’s Apostle said,
“No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn.”
[Sahih Bukhari Vol. 7, Book 70, #5276]
Don’t Compete for the Pleasures of This World
Narrated by Uqba:
One day the Prophet went out and offered the (funeral) prayer for the people (i.e. martyrs) of Uhud as he used to offer a funeral prayer for any dead person, and then (after returning) he ascended the pulpit and said,
“I am your predecessor before you, and I am a witness upon you, and I am looking at my Tank just now, and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the world (or the keys of the world). By Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah after me, but I am afraid that you will compete with each other for (the pleasures of) this world.“
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 411]
Be In This World As If You Were A Stranger
‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said,
“Allah’s Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, ‘Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.”
The sub-narrator added: Ibn ‘Umar used to say,
“If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death.”
[Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Book 76, Number 425]
